"Dermatitis" is derived from two terms: "derma," meaning "skin," and "itis," meaning inflammation. Dermatitis is a general term that refers to any type of skin irritation and has different types:

_ Atopic dermatitis (eczema): This type of skin inflammation usually occurs in people with allergies. Its hallmark is dry skin. So if you have allergies and dermatitis simultaneously, your dermatitis is probably the atopic kind.

_ Contact dermatitis: If your skin becomes red and inflamed when you come in contact with certain substances, such as detergents and latex, your dermatitis is called "contact dermatitis." The best way to treat it is to avoid re-contact with the irritant.

_ Seborrheic dermatitis: Inflammation of the skin that occasionally affects you, especially in the cold seasons. Seborrheic dermatitis is usually accompanied by dandruff and scalp inflammation and affects oily areas of the skin, such as around the nose, chin, forehead, and middle of the chest. Seborrheic dermatitis tends to recur. Like other types of dermatitis, Demodex mites' infection can exacerbate it.
